Monday May 4th 2015.
On the 4th of May, The Netherlands will remember those who lost their lives during the Second World War and subsequent conflicts.
Time: 21:30 - 22:30 hrs.
Location: Hotel de Wereld
There will be a reception for invitees at Hotel de Wereld, organised by the Wageningen Council.
Fire of Liberation ceremony and relay
Time: 22:45 - 01:00 hrs
Location: 5 Mei Plein
At 22:30 hrs the Fire of Liberation ceremony will commence. This unique event in the City of Liberation is a link between the 4th and 5th of May. The mayor will start the ceremony by lighting the Fire of Liberation. The fire is not lignited with a match, but with a flame which is carried each and every year from Normandy (France), where the allied forces landed, by Wageningen citizens. Teams of runners from 200 municipalities in the Netherlands consecutively carry under loud cheering of the crowd a torch with this fire back to their place of residence, so that the freedom fire will light in the entire country.

See more of the war history, with among others military vehicles from that time and re-enactment groups. With nice weather paratroopers will land between 12:00-13:00

Location: Wageningen city
At 12:40 astronaut André Kuipes will officially open the Liberation Festival in Wageningen on the market square. From 13:00 onwards the podia will open, at different locations, in all genres, until midnight. Topacts such as this year Dotan and Kensington. In the Torckpark Parka Kultura can be found with jugglers, acrobats and magicians.

Location: Johannes de Doperkerk (John the Baptist Church).

Music will be performed by Maarten Peters and Margriet Eshuis and by the Regiment fanfare “Garde Grenadiers en Jagers”.
National Commemoration Capitulations 1945 and Liberation Parade
15.30 - 16.30 hrs
Location: 5th of May square (Liberation Square)
In this year’s Liberation Parade many World War II-veterans from abroad will participate in the march. Probably this year the veterans will take part, 70 years afterwards, for the last time. Military successors are participating as well and will take over the tradition to honour the liberators. Historical military planes will salute the veterans during the fly past.
